There are plenty of options out there for brave gamers who aren’t afraid of things that go bump in the night and these are our picks for the scariest moments in SEGA’s rich history. Onwards!
5. Shinobi – Mandara
There are lots of spooky contenders from the late 80s to early 90s that make for perfect Halloween gaming, ranging from the cartoon mayhem of Decap Attack to the body-tearing transformations of Altered Beast to the frantic mayhem of Alien Storm.
Shinobi doesn’t seem like the obvious choice for this list but there’s one boss in particular that stands out in Joe Musashi’s adventure. Hidden inside a cave within a secret logistics base is Mandara, one of the members of the Zeed Crime Syndicate.
Mandara is trapped inside a supercomputer and begins his attack by sending out a towering wall of statues. Your escape from this trap is cut off by a deadly column of lightning, so you have no option other than facing this ominous threat, which slowly and silently advances towards you.
There’s an undeniable mixture of fear and panic as the wall of statues gets closer and closer, pushing you towards your doom…
