I was able to submit two artworks, though I had some trouble. My first image was out of proportion when I shrunk the image to the required size and my second image somehow got submitted twice. Fortunately I was able to get the proportions right thus letting me submit the first image again.

I did have to contact Sega about these problems to clarify why I had two submissions for each artwork. I finally got everything sorted out though, so now comes the waiting.

I only found out about this at the beginning of September. I put a lot of effort into mine and tried to do as much as possible in the short time I had. But I managed to make the deadline and submitted it online Early Friday morning. As a very devoted fan of everything Sonic, I really wanted to contribute something for this. It would certainly be an honor and a privledge to have my work in the game. Here’s hoping for the best. Good luck everyone.

I found out about this contest the day before the deadline. I begged my dad to let me stay home from work for two days in a row so that I could work on this picture. And that’s all I did, I just drew for the next 20 hours I was awake. I really wish I’d known about this contest in August, so that I could’ve done something even better.
I’ve been waiting for something like this since I was a kid. There was no way I was gonna pass up this opportunity.
I’m glad I could participate in this. I want to wish everybody good luck who entered, because each and every one of us who took part holds Sonic as a special part of our lives. We’re all true fans of the franchise. I’m just happy that everyone is having fun together.

We’re looking to announce the winners soon, but before we do we have to contact them to and confirm everything is in order. Part of the legal requirements for the US contest experience, I’m afraid. I’m not terribly optimistic this will happen by this weekend, but it shouldn’t be too much longer than that.

Thanks again for everyone who submitted. Our actual numbers for total submissions range in the 450 - 500 range! I wrote this blog posting before the end of the contest and was absolutely caught off guard by the amount of 11th hour submissions :).

Every Sonic fan should be proud, this contest has been a success so far and a lot of fun. We love our fanbase and we love your enthusiasm, we’ll definitely be looking to do more contests for the Sonic community in the future!

Sadly, I could not enter in time as well due to being busy with animation projects for college. It’s just as well, I would have been beaten by artists with more experience. But here’s hoping that SEGA picks some kids to win for good sport. I was really worried I wasn’t going to have it sent in on time. I kept paying too much time correcting the lineart but thankfully I had enough time to Photoshop it. This contest actually helped on my Photoshop abilities to seek tutorials on grass, motion, etc.

I’m going crazy, hoping that I win. This is one of my first times actually entering and going through with an art contest. My submission wasn’t even the best that I could do, which is why I’m so doubtful. Actually, I believe the winners have been chosen since two artists (ShockRabbit and Streaks-the-Hedgehog on Deviant Art) I know received an email and a phone call from Sega. I’m so happy for them, they worked ridiculously hard on the it entries, especially one of the, who the heck uses over 300 layers on Photoshop XD

They’re supposed to have signed the release form for their artwork by Wednesday…

The Fanart competition is closed across both our US and European territories. I can’t reply to all comments, but here’s a select few from the various commenters:

* Only 20 winners - we had a very difficult time narrowing down our winners pool to only 20 winners, there was sooo much good art coming in. Ultimately, we had to pick 20, but we’re still very thrilled with everyone’s submissions.

* The Winners - We’ve sent out affidavits for the winners, so you may hear rumblings of these communications in the Sonic and art communities on the web. Currently, this is only for the US competition, the European competition is managing the winners on their end.

* Posting Winner Names - We’ve set the original site redirect to fall on this blog, as its easier to update content and close out. We’ll likely do the same for the update with winner names once we’ve sorted out all the paper work. There will be a permanent place for these names :).

I’m some people got disqualified due to posting there art online so there checking every piece untill they get 20 winners. That and I’m guessing some people added archie characters, sonic tv show characters and/or fan characters and weeded all that out isn’t helping them pick the winners faster. But then again, who knows?
