Warfare in Valkyria Chronicles Remastered
When we announced the 7th Dragon III Code:VFD artbook last week, an eagle-eyed reader (h/t to InquisitiveRavenclaw from SiliconEra) spotted something strange in the artwork. The male agent character, the guy with the casual beanie cap, stylish pose and oddly familiar, green, bug-eyed glasses has a very special t-shirt on. If you look reeeeeeal close, taggers from Tokyo-To (Jet Set Radio Future) will notice a Graffiti Soul emblazoned across the chest. Coincidence? Well, with the letters JSRF under it, we’re pretty sure it’s not just the universe being lazy. So instead of just letting it go by the wayside, we put on our detective hats and asked the 7th Dragon development team what was going on. Turns out, 7th Dragon character designer Miwa Shirow is a huge fan of Jet Set Radio Future, and when designing the Agent, threw in a nod to JSRF’s colorful characters. Basically, because the Agent class is dependent on a lot of conditions aligning in combat, they wanted a visual to reflect the complexity of it combined with an aesthetic of a street-wise youth, and here’s the result. But how do we know for sure? Well, when Shirow delivered the character art to the devs, he included some internal names just for easy reference. By and large the developers were fine with the internal names. Their only request? Make the male agent’s name ͞Jet.͟ Oh, and one extra thing, in the cluster of buttons on the Agent’s left chest, there’s one other nod to a Sega Dreamcast classic – it’s the symbol from Virtual-On Oratori Tangram. How about that? You can pre-order 7th Dragon III Code: VFD today at 7thdragon.sega.com
